Smoking Marijuana Doubles Your Risk Of Car Crash

Smoking marijuana within three hours of driving doubles your risk of an accident, according to an analysis of marijuana studies.
Marijuana is the most commonly used recreational, illegal drug consumed in the word. Its use by drivers is on the rise. Recent research in Scotland showed that about one in six young adult drivers smoked marijuana in the previous 12 hours before getting behind the wheel.
In the current analysis, researchers at Dalhousie University in Canada examined nine studies involving almost 50,000 people who had been in car crashes. They discovered that collisions, especially fatal collisions, were twice as frequent among drivers who had smoked marijuana in the previous three hours. The study was published in the British Medical Journal.

Absolute rubbish. Propaganda concocted by the unenlightened.
As compared to what, another manipulation of statistics. As usual no description of confounding factors, were they also drinking, doing hard drugs? How was this test conducted? Random observations, statistics (if so, how was it determined that the substance was pot and pot only), if it was a controlled study, what were and how were the controls administered? I do not use substances but find this latest attempt by the anti-legalization group to “prove” how terrible it is, to be totally ridiculous. What is terrible is the trillions of dollars spent to ‘eradicate’ pot, the thousands of lives destroyed or lost, and the fact that prohibition does not work. You’d think that that lesson would have been learned in the 1920s.
I’ll take a pot smoker on the road any day vs a drunk, somebody with an anger problem, somebody high on legal drugs, somebody running their mouth or texting on a phone, or just trying to find their pack of cigarettes.
Pot has been around probably since the dawn of time. No amount of regulation will stop it’s use. It needs to be rescheduled, regulated, taxed and sold legally. That alone would be a huge step in reducing our national debt. Put those government men and women in positions that will help the citizenry, and not make criminals out of those who smoke it.
Well said Reta!!
The current analysis looked at 9 studies that involved more than 49,000 drivers (http://group.bmj.com/group/media/latest-news/cannabis-use-doubles-chances-of-vehicle-crash). Even if you believe pot should be legalized, that doesn’t necessarily mean you think people should be allowed to smoke before they get behind the wheel. After all, alcohol is legal but that doesn’t translate into permitting people to drive when they are intoxicated. Mixing the question of the legalization of marijuana with the implications of people driving under its influence conflates two separate issues.
WOW, really, ok so what about the fact that “200,000″ people per day die by way of Legal Prescribed meds?
Now lets get real, I don’t smoke anylonger but when I did I was able to drive quite well even at high rates of speed. I have had not one single car crach ever!
As in not one.
I have been driving now for 45 years and yet not a single car crash, of what at least 20 years of that time I did smoke.
You know when BS is commited to paper its still only BS. If a Defacto Government’s agenda is little more than BS its still just BS, as in its nothing but Control over YOU.
When you let MAN make laws to control you then you will reap what you will.
God gave all of your FREE WILL, with that comes reason, as well as LOGIC.
A person who has smoked that has no Mental dissorders and feels that they are to high will not drive.
But a person with mental dissorders that drinks, or smokes, or even take Meds given by a Doc. still have the base flaw of a “MENTAL DISORDER.”
Thanks, Peace & Love to all, even if you can’t get the fog of utter and total Propaganda out of your head.
Let NO MAN restrict you, follow Gods laws only!
Due onto others as you would want done on to YOU.
